About us

Your partner in the parts of hosting nobody warns you about

Compasstay was built for owners who want their rental to perform like a business without it taking over their week.

Our story

Hosting got complicated, so we made it simpler

Short-term rentals used to be straightforward. Put the listing up, answer a few messages, hand over the keys. That is not the market anymore. Rates move week to week, guests expect an answer in minutes, and a single slow month can wipe out a good quarter.

Compasstay started because too many good properties were underperforming for reasons that had nothing to do with the property. The house was lovely. The pricing had not been touched in a year. The listing said everything except the one thing guests actually wanted to know.

So we focused on the three levers that move the needle most — what you charge, how you get found, and how you talk to guests — and built a service around getting those right.

What we believe

How we approach the work

Four things that shape every recommendation we make.

01

Your property is not a template

A cabin outside Yosemite and a downtown condo do not compete for the same guest, and they should not be priced the same way. Every recommendation starts with your market, not a generic playbook.

02

Occupancy is not the goal

A fully booked calendar at the wrong rate is a busy way to earn less. We look at what the whole season brings in, not just how full the month looks.

03

Guests remember the small things

The parking instruction that arrived on time. The honest note about the steep driveway. Reviews are usually decided by details, not amenities.

04

You should understand every change

We explain the reasoning behind what we suggest. If you ever want to take it from here on your own, you will know exactly why things are set up the way they are.

Who we work with

New hosts and experienced owners both

If you are just getting started, the hardest part is knowing what good looks like. We help you set the listing up properly the first time instead of learning it the expensive way over two seasons.

If you have been hosting for years, the questions change. Your numbers have plateaued, a new competitor opened down the road, or the shoulder season keeps getting longer. That is a different conversation and we are glad to have it.

  • Single-property owners who host on the side
  • Owners running two or three units in the same market
  • Hosts coming off a management company and taking it back in-house
  • Anyone whose calendar looks busier than their deposits suggest
